Harvest Season Stories vol. 2/25: porcini findings
In North Karelia, the weekend kicked off with plenty of rain. The rain front also swept strongly across Savo. This is wonderful news for the mushrooms, and the anticipation is only growing. On Saturday evening, our buyer Jari brought us a fantastic surprise from Kerimäki – a crate full of stunning, first-class porcini mushrooms from the spruce forest. Wow! We are also expecting to see more Northern milkcaps and chanterelles appearing soon. And for porcini too, it’s only a matter of time. Let’s hope for more steady rainfall and, in balance, some calm, windless weather.
This weekend, our buying activity has already expanded. In North Karelia, our traditional Buying Routes 1 and 2 opened. Buying Truck 2 headed to Ylämylly, Hammaslahti, Rääkkylä, and Liperi. Meanwhile, Buying Truck 1 made its way towards Nurmes, then down through Juuka and Koli, stopping in Romppala and finally Kontiolahti. Our buying network is now very well established across Eastern Finland. Next week, we are planning to open more points in Outokumpu, Tohmajärvi (fixed buying station), and Varkaus. In addition, Joensuu’s buying station is shifting to evening hours and will now serve for a longer time. So keep an eye on our announcements here on our site!
This weekend is truly filled with wild blueberries. For the record, the purchase price for uncleaned blueberries is at a historic high – €3/kg. Pickers are now able to earn excellent tax-free daily income. Blueberries are plentiful in the forests.
Buying is running smoothly, blueberries are abundant, chanterelles are rising, and porcini are starting to peek out from the spruces. So it’s time to keep a close watch on the mushroom forests.
You are warmly welcome to our buying stations!
Talk to you again soon,
the Dalla Valle Team
