Porcini Update

A new flush of porcini mushrooms is beginning to emerge in both spruce and pine forests. On Monday, August 24, 2026, we purchased test batches from different parts of North Karelia to assess the quality.

Fortunately, the overall quality has improved, but unfortunately the level of worm damage is still too high: 40% even in Grade I porcini. The mushrooms look good from the outside, which makes the situation and quality control particularly challenging. In addition, the weather forecast for this week remains quite warm.

We have therefore concluded that the quality is not yet at a sufficient level for us to begin purchasing porcini. We are actively monitoring and assessing the situation, but for the time being, we are not yet able to start buying porcini. We hope that conditions and quality will continue to improve as autumn progresses.

As a major buyer of porcini mushrooms, the volumes we purchase are considerable. With such large volumes, quality issues become extremely difficult to manage. For the time being, we will therefore continue to focus on serving our pickers by purchasing other mushrooms and berries.
